Nutrition shouldn’t be complicated, right?
For a healthy, energized body, we know to eat mostly whole, unprocessed foods, not too much, not too little.
We know that over-eating can result in digestive discomfort, weight gain, disrupted sleep and more. Conversely, under-eating can leave you malnourished, low energy, underweight, muscle weakness among other things.
When it comes to food, finding both physical and emotional satisfaction is key and balance is the ultimate objective!
While most people know these things, food and eating can be so confusing for some of us. What to eat, when to eat, how much and in what order are just some of the questions that come up to make us doubt whether “we are doing it right.”
Of course, science can unveil fresh insights that sometimes prompt us to reevaluate our eating habits. Take, for instance, the work of a young French scientist, who revolutionized our understanding of blood sugar management with her five simple strategies.
Nutrition isn't inherently confusing; rather, it's the diet culture that often imposes rigid rules on us, dictating what we should eat, how we should look, and what we should weigh.
Honestly, it’s exhausting!
Mindful & intuitive eating approaches can help us deviate from the diet culture nonsense. By trusting and listening to our own innate wisdom, slowing down, and shifting perspectives, we get to mute the food noise, feel better in our own skin and enjoy life so much more.
During an Intuitive Eating Retreat last year, I connected with numerous women eager to free themselves from the constraints of diet culture and mentality. Among these lovely individuals was Laurie. We shared a passion for embracing food, advocating for ourselves, navigating life in our late 40s, and raising children in today's world.
Laurie’s seen all the diet culture backlash on herself as well as on her clients. I thought it would be helpful to have her as a guest on the podcast to shine some light on nutrition, especially for women in our middle years and beyond!
Enjoy, share, and let me know what you think!
