My husband often makes fun of how I peel fruits and vegetables - with my finger like an inch worm, well-controlled, and away from the body.
This seems awkward to the way Westerners do their peeling, but it IS the only way we do it here in Thailand (and probably in other surrounding Asian countries).
Here’s my mom peeling one of my favorite Thai fruits, มะปราง (Ma Prang) or apparently called Plum Mango among other names.
What is special about this fruit, I believe, is its fragrance that neither resembles a plum or a mango. It is uniquely itself and for that I am glad to journey half the world away to taste this fruit it once in a blue moon.
This fruit, and MANY other foods here. 😋
One of the reminders I’ve had on this trip is the power of fragrance.
Tropical flora, fruits and foods have strong flavors and scents here. I am continually being stimulated by multiple of them daily.
It is amazing that even if I had not smelled a certain flower, or a combination of smells together in so long, that very first whiff would bring back such powerful and distinct memories!
Strong flavors of certain foods have done the same thing as well. I find myself wanting to eat certain dishes, fruits or snacks just to be reminded of experiences of the past.
So I get to re-live it for a moment.
Our 5-senses (hearing, smelling, seeing, touching and tasting) do indeed help us experience life in the moment, if we pause to participate.
I am happy to pause often here and continue to live in awe of this thing we call the mind-body connection.
