I saw my primary care doctor today for the first time as a 50-year-old woman. I went in with exactly one agenda: HRT. Because… WTF, menopause.
I had already decided I wasn’t taking no for an answer. So I showed up politely adamant and softly assertive about my ask.
Dr. C was warm, smiley, kind—and thankfully, she agreed.
Of course I got the usual menagerie that comes with it: side effects, efficacy, lifestyle factors, natural remedies.
Somewhere in the middle of it all, I interrupted.
“Dr. C… can you just tell me I need to give up caffeine and sugar if I want to feel better?”
She smiled. Again.
